Genshin Impact Character Tier List

Genshin Impact Character Tier List

Latest posts by Himanshu Verkiya (see all)

I’ve been playing Genshin Impact since day 1one and have obtained plenty of characters on different servers. While some characters have massive crowd-control abilities, others specialize in DPS roles.

The game emphasizes team play, where we must build optimal team compositions to clear the content. Featuring a luxuriant roster of characters in Genshin Impact, it may be tough to decide which characters you should wish for.

With unique elements, reactions, and characters in the game, players need to strike a balance between gameplay and play style to ace through challenging content.

Promoted banners re-run characters and feature new ones, which makes players search for characters’ worth before wishing. To solve that problem, Tier lists are handy as they rank characters on various scales and help players make a judgment call.

To emphasize the same, in this Genshin Impact Character Tier List, I will rank all the characters in the game to suit the needs of free-to-play players. I will gauge these characters on various parameters and justify their ranking in the meta.

While I do love some characters unconditionally, I won’t let it cloud my judgment. I will group these characters into different tiers by sharing my unbiased opinions on the Tier list. Without further ado, amass your primogems, and let’s go through this tier list so that you can make an informed call on your next wishing session.

Tierlist Criteria

Players can have innumerable opinions on tier lists. Some people rank their favorite characters higher on the list, while others rank some to Amber’s level.

Depending on your experience with the game, and the availability of weapons, some characters might outperform others in niche roles. That’s why, Before going through the Tier List’s infographic, I will walk you through some parameters that I considered curating this Tier list.

  • The Tierlist ranks the characters without considering any extra constellations; all the characters are considered C0.
  • Only 4-star weapons ( excluding battle pass ones) are considered available to the players to keep the list free-to-play friendly.
  • There is no ranking order from left to right in a row. Characters are listed in a group rather than a ranking based on a specific row.
  • Characters are listed according to their value to the team and grouped based on how many supporting characters they would require. The lower rank, the higher the number of supporting characters.
  • Higher-tier characters have more flexibility in roles ( DPS, Support, or Burst) and power level and yield the best results overall.

Character Roles

Just one more thing before I deliver my views on characters. Let’s talk about some roles that are prominent in the game. I won’t delve into niche roles like Hypercarries, Enablers, Cleansers, etc.. Rather, I will give a general overview of which major roles I have categorized the characters mentioned above.

genshin impact character roles
Alhaitham thinking about different character roles with me! > _ <

DPS: Covers Burst DPS, Main DPS, and Quickswap DPS roles. These characters take most of the field time and utilize external buffs to enhance their damage output. These characters are responsible for most of the team’s damage and utilize their abilities to damage enemies severely.

Sub-DPS: These characters deploy their elemental skill or bursts to help out DPS characters with off-field damage. All you need to do is to activate their abilities and switch to DPS characters.

Support: These characters provide utility, heals, shields, taunting effects, and other buffs to characters. You will use these characters to benefit from team-wide bonuses or help other teammates debuff enemies. Supporting characters are essential to a team.

Most of the characters can come under multiple roles; however, to keep the Tier list easy to digest, I won’t dive into the technicalities of their kits and present a general notion of their roles.

  • Rarity: 5-star
  • Element: Anemo, Geo, or Electro
  • Weapon type: Sword
  • 4-star weapons: Favonius Sword, Sacrificial Sword, Festering Desire

The Traveler’s’ abilities are quite beneficial in specific team compositions. You will eventually obtain all of their constellations. Depending on your team composition, you can switch their element and use them accordingly. However, there are better alternatives than the Traveler.

C-Tier Characters

Aloy

genshin impact aloy

  • Role: Sub-DPS
  • Rarity: 5-star
  • Element: Cryo
  • Weapon type: Bow
  • 4-star weapons: Favonius Bow, Sacrificial Bow, Fading Twilight

Aloy can be used as a Burst DPS in some teams. You can use her elemental skill for some Cryo application. Currently, she has no extra constellations in the game, and she can only be gauged on a C0 Tier list.

Amber

genshin impact amber

  • Role: Support
  • Rarity: 4-star
  • Element: Pyro
  • Weapon type: Bow
  • 4-star weapons: Favonius Bow, Fading Twilight, Prototype Crescent

Amber can be used in some team compositions where you need to swirl Pyro. One example would be Hu Tao, Xingqiu, Amber, and Sucrose. You can apply Pyro on an enemy and swirl with Sucrose to reduce their Pyro resistance with the Viridescent Venerer artifact set. You can also throw her Baron Bunny on the field to taunt enemies for a short while until it explodes.

Xinyan

genshin impact xinyan

  • Role: DPS / Support
  • Rarity: 4-star
  • Element: Pyro
  • Weapon type: Claymore
  • 4-star weapons: Favonius Greatsword, Sacrificial Greatsword, Whiteblind

Xinyan’s abilities scale off her defense attributes and can be used as a Physical damage dealer. However, some enemies have high Physical resistance, and you would need to invest a lot in her and need outstanding supporting characters to ace through the content.

Qiqi

genshin impact qiqi

  • Role: Support
  • Rarity: 5-star
  • Element: Cryo
  • Weapon type: Sword
  • 4-star weapons: Favonius Sword, Sacrificial Sword, Festering Desire

Qiqi’s elemental skill can be used to heal an active character. Though she can heal all your characters with her normal attacks, her kit doesn’t feature any additional buffs. If you are unlucky like me, you might end up with a C5 Qiqi. All I’m waiting for is a C6 Qiqi.

Question: Who are Your Favorite Best-supporting Characters According to Your in Genshin Impact?

Answer: Bennett, Jean, Kokomi, Yaoyao, Zhongli, Kazuha, and Sucrose are my favorite supporting characters in the game.

Question: Who are Your Favorite Sub-DPS Characters in Genshin Impact?

Answer: The usual Xingqiu, Xiangling, Fischl, and Yelan never leave my team compositions. Besides that, I do use the Dendro Traveler, Rosaria, Beidou, and Thoma from time to time.

Meta is Transient; Love is Eternal

I always advocate for playing characters you love. There’s no use in playing a character just because they are good in the meta and you don’t cherish them. Do what your heart says.

If your favorite character is ranked low on the Tier list, it doesn’t mean they’re trash. The rankings will change once you access constellations, and your favorite characters might be the best characters on your account.

All you need to do is to invest appropriately in those characters and pair them with good supporting characters. Even Sucrose is outstanding when paired with Xingqiu, Xiangling, and Fischl.

That is why you shouldn’t take Tier List to heart but use them as a source of reference and decide how much investment you’d need to make on a character.

The time’s come to wrap up the Tier list, and I hope to see you soon. Check out our GenshinChronicle to get the latest and greatest Genshin Impact content out there. If you are a hardcore gamer who wants to gulp more Tier lists, why don’t you search your favorite games here and see what comes up?
