Call of Duty fans were elated when Modern Warfare came out in 2019, not to mention the immense popularity of the older Modern Warfare releases. It has always been an exhilarating game, and Modern Warfare 2 is no exception! I’m your MW2 platinum General to instruct you on navigating the roadmap and coming out victorious with minimal casualties.
I am a veteran COD player and prestige master with deep experiential knowledge, so you can trust me to give the proper orders to survive the campaign and beyond!
The game looks exquisite and has an engaging story with achievements worth unlocking. Taking home the platinum in this particular COD game is a bit easier than you might expect, with the trophies constituting around half of what you’d typically expect. However, this doesn’t mean you’ll breeze through it without a sweat.
Some achievements take considerable skill above basic training to unlock, and you get better at FPS games with practice. Prepare for heroic gunfights while earning everything, as you’ll be exposed to all Modern Warfare 2 offers.
Gear up, soldier; it’s time to move out and explore each award in depth so you can unlock the honorific platinum, which is like the purple heart of the genre.
Bottom Line Up Front
Earning the Modern Warfare 2 Platinum trophy requires you to initially complete the game in Veteran mode. You must then select various chapters to save time and get specific medals instead of playing through the game again.
The next step is to sweep up the bullet casings and earn all remaining awards in the campaign. The final step is to attain all the trophies related to spec ops. The platinum is short and only contains twenty-five trophies related to the campaign and online play.
- Genre:Â First-person shooter
- Difficulty:Â 6/10
- Average time:Â 25-30+ hours
- Total Trophies:Â Â 25
- # Of Required Playthroughs: 1-2 (Depending on Which Mode You Choose First)
Modern Warfare 2 Platinum Trophy Roadmap
Lock and load because it’s time to engage the enemy and revel in everything Modern Warfare 2 offers!
Step 1: Complete the game in Veteran mode
Completing Modern Warfare 2 on Veteran mode ensures you won’t be required to play the whole campaign again. Choosing a lower setting will make the platinum much longer than needed, so I advise you to bite the bullet and play on Veteran if you’re hunting for the platinum.
Play the game in this mode; the correlating trophies will be unlocked organically as you play through this rewarding experience. Don’t worry, though. Most players have enough FPS training, making this familiar and manageable. It’s easier not to think about the other trophies and play through Veteran.
Trophies Unlocked
- Nobody was There
- Ghost-in-Training
- A Crappy Way to Die
- No time to lose
- Must be Wind
Step 2: Use chapter select to save time and get specific trophies
This is where you will start examining what’s missing within any given chapter of Modern Warfare Two, and it’s accessible through the mission select feature.
Go to the corresponding task to unlock a specific trophy until the ones listed below are all accounted for. After this step, you are on your way to fully completing the game and taking home that bright platinum.
Trophies Unlocked
- Crocodile
- Nessie
- Test Drive
- Keeping this One
- Don’t touch the deck!
- Gunless
- Backpack Guy
- Wall of Duty
- Practice makes Perfect
Step 3: Shoot through the remaining campaign trophies
There will be a few more miscellaneous trophies that can be earned in the Veteran campaign. Once you finish collecting them, you’ll be done with all awards related to the campaign, and you’re at the home stretch.
Again, you will need to complete Veteran mode eventually, so you might as well endure it without the need for additional hours on this platinum. You will die sometimes, but the challenge is worth it and not that bad compared to others.
Trophies Unlocked
- Time for Pints
- Cutting Heads off Snakes
- Daredevil
- Gentleman Thief
Step 4: Earn all spec-ops-related trophies online with a friend or random player
This final step involves conducting special operations online and earning all related trophies. You can choose between online matching to a random player or teaming up with someone you know. I recommend the latter assuming your friend has skills that will move the process along quickly.
Trophies Unlocked
- Hellride
- Kings of the Mountain
- Only the Beginning
- Going Dark
- Full SSE
- Night Fight
Modern Warfare 2 Trophy Guide
It’s time to lock on the target, establish the coordinates for a devastating airstrike on each trophy, and give you the debrief and subsequent orders to succeed!
We Are RTB
Collect every single trophy in Modern Warfare 2
- Grade:Â Platinum
- Player%:Â 8.16%
Collecting all other trophies will unlock this platinum award. Heed the Call of Duty and went above and beyond to earn it!
Crocodile
Within Wetwork, while underwater, shoot three enemies
- Grade:Â Silver
- Player%:Â 23.32%
When you begin the Wetwork mission, you’ll be submerged underwater until you reach a guard to kill with your throwing knife. Go ahead and take his pistol located on the pier after taking him out, and now you have the tools to shoot three enemies while underwater.
Returning to this trophy later is a more straightforward process, but you can shoot for it on your first playthrough too. You need to kill three enemies, and the award will unlock!
Must Be Wind
Within Countdown, rescue the hostages without any enemies firing
- Grade:Â Gold
- Player%:Â 16.92%
This trophy requires some skill, and you might have some trouble; just a fair warning. It begins when you start the “Countdown” mission, and it’s the last mission of MW2. You will grapple onto a roof, and then there will be three separate floors of enemies to take care of who are all holding hostages.
Each floor will require speed and precision to kill them all while preventing them from firing. They won’t be alerted unless you shoot off your weapon when you drop in. This is good to know because you should wait until they are all in a group. You have two weapons during this segment, but I recommend using the FTac Recon solely.
You don’t want any enemies taking a shot, so remember that if they fire, you need to start over. All three floors must be cleared, and my advice is to take your time and not rush into any given area. Scope out the environment while effectively rescuing the hostages.
Gunless
Complete “Alone” without firing a weapon
- Grade:Â Gold
- Player%:Â 18.37%
Guiding Soap through Mexico isn’t bad, but doing it without firing a weapon is a different story. This is an intimidating trophy that many players struggle with. Move the difficulty down to recruit to make things easier, and then focus on knife kills to ensure you never fire a weapon for the whole mission titled “Alone.”
Aside from knives, you have other weapons to utilize, like Molotov cocktails, throwing knives, melee kills, & even proximity mines placed in wise locations. Go for enemies that are on the sidelines and not in the open. When the radio operator calls, and no one answers, that’s how you know each area is clear before moving on, and it’s easier to kill every enemy.
There’s a part where combat ensues near a church, and since you can’t fire a weapon, it’s best to use the nearby buildings to sneak by into the church. When you run into Ghost, he will pick up the slack and help you reach the end. Don’t fire your weapon once during this chapter; the award will unlock when you reach the truck.
Test Drive
In “Violence In Timing” drive five types of vehicles
- Grade:Â Bronze
- Player%:Â 16.69%
During “Violence in Timing,” there is a sequence where you can hijack enemy vehicles, and it’s a good time if you’re a car fan. You will jump to each car and take over utilizing the hijack prompt. You must aim for the various vehicle types and keep jumping until you unlock the trophy.
I suggest playing Recruit mode to get this trophy because it’s much more manageable. Note that cars on the side of the road count in this challenge, and you need to hijack all the different vehicles for the award to unlock. Below is a list of the vehicle types for your reference.
- Transport Truck
- Flatbed Truck
- Cargo Truck
- Tactical Vehicle
- Civilian Vehicles
Ghost-In-Training
In “El Sin Nombre,” make it to the penthouse without killing or raising the alarm
- Grade:Â Gold
- Player%:Â 17.77%
During this mission, you’ll be playing as Soap at some point and control him while exploring the mansion. You must sneak past various guards without killing them or triggering the alarm. Bottles are an excellent distraction to clear the path to the roof.
If you happen to kill one or raise the alarm by accident, then simply start the mission over. Grab all bottles in your path because you’ll need them. Keep moving forward while paying attention to enemy locations, and you should be fine. This might take a few tries, but you’ll eventually settle on a viable way to sneak past without violence.
Don’t Touch the Deck!
In “Dark Water,” move 90 meters to the deck’s front without touching the deck itself
- Grade:Â Silver
- Player%:Â 16.17%
During this mission, you’ll be confronted with slipping shipping containers that you jump on. Continue doing this without touching the deck on your way to the bow for 90 meters; the trophy is yours. You’re not getting off that quickly, though, because multiple enemies spawn to shoot, which makes this achievement more difficult.
Therefore, I recommend going for this trophy with more accessible settings so they don’t pose a threat. Missing a jump and landing on the deck will void this award, and you’ll need to start over.
Remember to double-click sprint on the left analog sprint to increase your speed further than the standard sprint. This will allow you to jump farther and give you more confidence during the challenge. Who would have thought you’d be platforming in COD? Something fresh never hurts, and it’s a fun trophy to earn!
Keeping This One
Using the first hijacked vehicle, make it to Price
- Grade:Â Silver
- Player%:Â 17.37%
When you come down from the helicopter and land in a hijacked vehicle, you need only to use it to reach Price, or the trophy won’t unlock. The challenging part about this trophy is the damage you take over time until you reach the goal. Because of this, I advise that you set the difficulty to recruit to save vehicle health.
Don’t switch to any other vehicle, as it’s most important to keep the one you landed in to unlock the award. You’ll need to lean out of the car and shoot enemies at times; during this, the vehicle won’t take damage. There will be some mines in your way for the back road part, so stay to the left on the dirt road to avoid taking unnecessary damage.
Soldiers will also throw mines out of a truck; you need to kill them before they can severely damage your vehicle. The key to this mission is to keep your car healthy in the early portion so you have enough health to endure. On Recruit, this shouldn’t be a problem at all.
Gentleman Thief
In the campaign, open three safes
- Grade:Â Gold
- Player%:Â 17.00%
You can unlock three safes across two missions while playing Modern Warfare 2, including “El Sin Nombre” and “Alone.” You must discover and open all the safes with the proper combination to unlock this trophy. The one in El Sin Nombre is on the mansion’s second floor. Go to Diego’s room; a safe will be beside his bed.
The combination is 02 02 19. “Alone” has two safes to find, and the first is found after you see the dying man and receive the shotgun. Make your way forward in this mission until you come to a cafe with a safe waiting to be unlocked. The pry tool is located in the room before the cafe and can be used to open the door containing the safe.
When you pry it open, look next to the desk and enter the code 10 10 80 to unlock it. The final safe is right after the cafe when you reach the mechanics with the blue door. Explore the rooms until you come across the safe, and enter the code 37 60 80. After unlocking this final safe, the trophy is yours!
Wall of Duty
With the riot shield, kill three enemies in co-op or the campaign.
- Grade:Â Bronze
- Player%:Â 21.01%
I love these punny trophies, and this one isn’t difficult. A riot shield can be found in the Ghost Team missions or by playing Prison Break.
The best way to accomplish this is to obtain the riot shield before freeing the prisoners. Head to the mess hall and take out three weaker enemies. This can easily be accomplished on Veteran mode, but you want to avoid the more brutal enemies, or it can be a nightmare. Even in Recruit mode, killing the weaker enemies will take a few hits, so keep at it until the trophy pops up!
Daredevil
Kill two enemies in co-op or the campaign while they’re affected flashed with a flashbang.
- Grade:Â Bronze
- Player%:Â 19.00%
In any mission, make sure you have some flashbangs handy. Head to the Cartel Protection mission and set it to recruit difficulty.
Throw one around enemies and blind yourself and them before killing them. The start of this mission gives you all the tools to accomplish this trophy. This straightforward trophy can be obtained multiple times while playing the Modern Warfare 2 campaign. Kill three enemies using flash grenades, and that’s another trophy for you!
Practice Makes Perfect
In “Ghost Team,” shoot every target in the training area.
- Grade:Â Silver
- Player%:Â 14.80%
You’ll need to get 33 targets in one life to earn this trophy. Earlier, you’ll come across an M4 with a thermal scope that can be useful for locating the targets easier at the training area. I advise you to use the rooftops of buildings in the area to scope out the targets much better. If things get frustrating, the thermal scope will make it manageable and switch to recruit. Consider using a visual aid online if you can’t find them all.
A Crappy Way to Die
Kill the enemy within the porta-potty.
- Grade:Â Bronze
- Player%:Â 19.33%
When you reach the “Dark Water” mission, you’ll see a man doing his business in a portaloo. In a sequence, your teammate will shoot the portaloo and attempt to kill the enemy inside. However, it’s mandatory to kill him before your AI companion does to get this trophy. Shoot it from the steps of the oil rig at the top while ignoring any distracting fire from enemies. Once he’s dead, the award is earned.
Nessie
In “Wetwork,” make it to the barge without being spotted
- Grade:Â Silver
- Player%:Â 19.24%
The first enemy will drop a pistol after you kill him with the throwing knife. From there, you’ll encounter a path of enemies where you can utilize the water for cover and approach them to kill without being spotted.
Take out the dock enemies first and then the patrol boat. Load the last checkpoint if you are seen towards the end of this mission so you don’t have to repeat the whole thing. Making it to the barge without alerting enemies will earn you the medal.
No Time to Lose
Finish the CCTV sequence within four minutes
- Grade:Â Silver
- Player%:Â 14.28%
During the “Prison Break” mission, you’ll find some security cameras to operate briefly and give Captain Price the correct orders to remain safe as he escapes. This trophy will require some study of this part and can be a real challenge to get in your first playthrough.
The main challenge behind this trophy is maximizing efficiency and time management to stay under four minutes for the whole part. You most likely won’t get it your first few times, but here are some tips that I found helpful to make the process smoother.
- Save switching the CCTV cameras for when Price moves to save precious seconds.
- Memorize the commands according to each area so that Price is never idle.
- If you forget the next best decision, take a breather and hit the pause button to think without letting Price go stationary.
Backpack Guy
Defeat gas or blind foes with a Molotov, semtex, & frag grenade while playing Prison Break.
- Grade:Â Silver
- Player%:Â 15.16%
While playing Prison Break, you’ll have many opportunities to effectively take out groups of foes who have been blinded or gassed.
Gasing is the preferable and more effective method that I recommend. Next, throw one of the three lethal grenades to kill them. Once again, it’s easier to accomplish this if you’re playing on Recruit. Here are the relevant lethal grenades you must use to unlock this trophy.
- Molotov
- Semtex
- Frag Grenade
Cutting Heads Off Snakes
Complete all campaign missions on Veteran or Realism mode
- Grade:Â Gold
- Player%:Â 16.73%
The Veteran mode can be a pickle, and there’s no reason to torture yourself with Realism mode until after you’ve earned the platinum. Go for playing the easier option, but don’t be fooled; it’s not easy. My advice is nothing new when it comes to playing challenging COD modes.
Utilize cover most of the time and shoot sparingly without getting greedy, or you’ll die. For groups and more formidable enemies, saving your grenades for them is best. Complete the game in either Veteran or Realism mode, and it will unlock the trophy.
Time for Pints
Complete the campaign on any difficulty setting
- Grade:Â Gold
- Player%:Â 37.50%
This is straightforward, and you won’t have any trouble with this trophy because it can be completed on Recruit. If you follow this guide, then it will unlock after you complete Veteran.
Nobody Was There
In “Recon by Fire,” do not ever trigger the alarm.
- Grade:Â Silver
- Player%:Â 29.12%
Captain Price will guide you through this mission, and as long as you follow his instructions and stay frosty, things should go well.
Two sniping sections require your attention here, and it’s a covert operation. The key to this trophy is not to miss any sniper shots. You can get triggered and alerted by nearby enemies and still earn the award, but missing a sniper bullet will trigger it, and you need to start the mission over if that happens.
Night Fight
In “Low Profile,” earn three stars.
- Grade:Â Silver
- Player%:Â 50.80%
This mission must be completed in under fifteen minutes to unlock this trophy. Do your best to collect all radioactive items located within the objectives.
The Geiger counter will help you find them. For this part, you should only kill the necessary enemies while saving as much time as possible to get three stars. If you have a friend who knows the missions well, I suggest you party up and have them do it with you since it’s a co-op mission.
Hellride
In “Denied Area,” earn three stars
- Grade:Â Silver
- Player%:Â 10.38%
So here we go with another Special Operations mission for co-op play that you need to finish in under 16 minutes. Your main goal is to plant the explosives while removing only the necessary enemies. With your friend or a random co-op player, try to split up and complete the different objectives before joining again, and it will go quicker.
Kings of the Mountain
In “Defender: Mt. Zaya,” earn three stars
- Grade:Â Silver
- Player%:Â 13.61%
Unlike the other timed Spec Ops challenges, you must prevent enemies from planting three explosives max while playing the whole mission. They will attempt to plant many of them, which can be annoying, and you must be fast while observing their movements.
You must protect the three objectives. Use sentry turrets to make this much more straightforward, and keep a keen eye out for the soldiers attempting to plant the explosives. If over three bombs are planted by the enemy, you’ll need to start the mission. Survive until the mission’s end, and the trophy will unlock.
Going Dark
Finish “Low Profile” without triggering any alarms.
- Grade:Â Silver
- Player%:Â 10.68%
For this challenge, you should use silenced weapons and look for radioactive items around the area. You start with a silenced sniper rifle that effectively takes out enemies overlooking the area on rooftops and any excessive patrols on the ground floor.
Sneak past the enemies to the best of your ability, and don’t trigger the alarm, or you’ll need to restart. Remember that silenced weapons aren’t always reliable and can still set off the alarm. I advise ending on the B objective so things are more manageable.
Only the Beginning
Earn one star in Co-op
- Grade:Â Silver
- Player%:Â 28.30%
Please reference See Hell Ride, Night Fight, & Kings of the Mountain for more information on this achievement.
Full SSE
In co-op, find 20 fragments of intel
- Grade:Â Silver
- Player%:Â 9.98%
Various intel fragments spread throughout missions, such as Low Profile, Defender: Mt. Zaya, & Denied Area. There are fifty in the whole game, but this trophy requires you to pick up at least twenty. This shouldn’t be a problem and will happen naturally through moderate exploration in each area. If you lack fragments, look up their locations and use chapter select to pick them up until you have twenty total.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Trophy Guide: FAQs
Question: Is the new Modern Warfare 2 platinum easy to obtain?
Answer: MW2 has fewer trophies to earn than many other COD games, but some challenging awards still require a steady hand. It’s relatively easy to obtain and shouldn’t take long, except for a few roadblocks that need practice. Most have experience with shooters, and this one is definitely on the more accessible side regarding the franchise.
Question: What is the hardest part about earning the Modern Warfare 2 platinum?
Answer: If you’re a beginner, you’ll discover it takes dedication to improve and steady your aim. I would say that this is a somewhat intense platinum, and I highly recommend having a solid skill set from the past. Still, there’s no time like now to learn and improve at FPS games. Buying a pair of joystick elevators for your controller might help your accuracy, but be sure to increase the sensitivity if you take this route.Answer: If you’re a beginner, you’ll discover it takes dedication to improve and steady your aim. Answer: Before shooting through Modern Warfare 2, make sure you’re willing to suffer through some intense challenges. It has some challenging trophies and a sense of accomplishment. It’s not worth it if you never play FPS games or get frustrated with them, but it is if you’re a fan of the Modern Warfare franchise. There has always been a cult following for MW.
