It Takes Two was perhaps the biggest surprise hit of 2021. From the developers at Hazelight Studios, the team behind A Way Out, It Takes Two continued to prove that couch co-op is not dead but can lead to some of the most memorable and diverse experiences in gaming. It keeps its gameplay fresh by steadily giving players new challenges and abilities, all delivered with a genuine sense of humor. It also has a short trophy list that makes earning its platinum a very manageable breeze. However, you will need a buddy to play through it with, but you can entice them with their platinum.

It Takes Two Walkthrough

It Takes Two Trophy Guide

Before taking a look at each of the individual trophies in It Takes Two, we need to first go over what you should expect before accepting the challenge. Thankfully, getting the platinum in It Takes Two is a lot simpler than most modern titles. You can get every trophy in one playthrough by simply going out of your way to grab them while playing through the entire story. Most straggler trophies are for playing the few optional minigames sprinkled throughout the game, but you don’t have to win them. You just have to participate.

However, you should know that there is no matchmaking in the game, so you’ll need to find a co-op partner to be able to play. Playing through the game with just one person using one controller and flipping back and forth is also nearly impossible. Most of the puzzles and platforming challenges require precise timing that would be extremely difficult to perform when switching between controllers. Thankfully, if you do miss any trophies, though, there is a chapter select that you can use to go back and get it pretty quickly. You also don’t have to play through the game in one sitting, as you can pick up where you left off, and there are plenty of checkpoints throughout the game. You can even change who you’re playing with at any time, so you don’t need to run through the entire game with the same person. When you purchase It Takes Two, it also gives you a free Friends Pass that you can send to a friend so that they can play with you at no extra cost. However, you should know that players playing the game with the Friends Pass cannot earn any trophies themselves.

Minigame Megalomania

Rarity: Gold

Description: This trophy is for finding all of the hidden minigames in It Takes Two.

Tips: There are 25 minigames scattered throughout the game that can be hidden if you don’t know where to look. Each one pits the players against one another in a fun and brief game to help mix up the game’s pace and add a bit of competitive fun to the co-op adventure. For this trophy, you do not need to win every minigame. You simply need to play each one at least once. The list of all the minigames is where to find them are below.

Chapter Minigame Description Location
Chapter 1: The Shed Whack-a-Cody This minigame pits the players in a competitive game of Whack-a-mole, with one trying to stay out of holes while the other tries to hit them with a hammer. This minigame is unmissable, and you will play it in the room covered in sawdust.
Flip the Switch This minigame sees May on a circular platform with switches in a circle along the border. Cody is then placed high above. The two players then have to compete to hit more switches than the other as they flip over. Flip the Switch is at the end of a side path in the room where you have to hit the red button that reads “DANGER Moving Parts.” Just make sure to grab it before hitting the button.
Chapter 2: The Tree Tug of War This minigame is a classic Tug of War game with players mashing buttons to see who is stronger and can pull the other into a hole between them. This minigame is easy to find in the room with the giant soccer ball after Cody fills the furnaces with goo, and May makes them explode to launch Cody.
Plunger Dunger This minigame sees both players taking control of plunger turrets with eight tracks in a tunnel. Targets appear on the tracks for players to shoot, causing them to move towards the other player. Players score points by getting targets to touch the other player’s side, and the one with the most points at the end of a time limit wins. This minigame is directly in front of you after you right the big blue catfish.
Chapter 3: Rose’s Room Tank Brothers This minigame is played on two handheld consoles. It is a short game where both players control a tank in an arena and have to try and shoot the other player by lobbing grenades while moving to avoid getting hit. Whichever player hits the other three times first is the winner. On top of the tall stack of pillows right at the start of the level. The pillows are located just before the purple star lamp.
Space Walk This one is a simple platformer minigame where both players are in a floating box room without any floor beneath them. Players then have to jump from box to box to claim them without falling. The winner is the player with the most boxes at the end of the time limit. Found inside the space elevator is a hidden opening just below the top. Go through the portal in the opening to be teleported to the minigame.
Laser Tennis This minigame places players on identical fields in an arena. Each side has twelve buttons that players can then jump on to spawn lasers that wipe across the other side of the board. Players win by surviving the longest without being hit by a laser. Found in another hidden opening in the section of the space elevator, just before the second set of three portals.
Rodeo In traditional Rodeo fashion, this game sees players trying to stay standing on top of a moving bull for as long as possible by pressing buttons quickly as they appear above their heads. When you first get to the Hopscotch section of the level, go straight until you reach the end of a path and find the minigame on top of a stack of pillows.
Feed the Reptile This minigame tasks players with throwing as many balls into the mouths of moving reptiles as they can in 30 seconds. Located to your right immediately after the first rails section of the level, just before the yellow bouncy pads.
Batting Time This minigame has both players controlling a batter with a spinning ball on a pole. Whoever hits the ball the most times in 30 seconds is the winner. This one is unmissable and part of the level’s natural progression.
Birdstar Players have to hit corresponding buttons for this minigame as they fall down the TV screen into circles at the bottom like a standard rhythm game. At the start of the Once Upon a Time section, go straight ahead to the end of the courtyard to the TV there.
Chapter 4: Cuckoo Clock Horse Derby This minigame sees the players controlling horses in a linear race where they have to jump over hurdles and duck under lanterns to last the longest. On the far right side of the town square within the funfair.
Bomb Run This minigame is a race where both players have bombs strapped to their backs. The only way to keep them from going off is by running through bubbles that extend their timer. If a player’s bomb goes off, they blow up and respawn with only five seconds on their timer, impeding their progress. Whoever makes it back to the starting point first wins. Directly to the left of the Horse Derby.
Chapter 5: Snow Globe Icicle Throwing This minigame is all about throwing icicles to try and hit as many targets as you can in 50 seconds. Whoever hits the most is the winner. By the left tower when you enter the village with three massive towers.
Shuffle Board This minigame is a game of Shuffleboard where players have to push three pucks as close to the edge of their arena without going over. In the same town as Icicle Throwing, in a cave at the middle tower, marked with a big neon sign.
Snow Warfare This minigame pits the players against enough in a snowball fight where they have to run around an arena and gather snowballs to throw at one another from piles. Whoever hits the other five times first wins. This minigame is in the same village and is in the cave by the right tower and is marked with a big yellow neon sign.
Ice Race This minigame is an ice-skating race with green rings that boost the player’s speed. Found at the start of the Beneath the Ice section. When you get to an underwater station, leave the station and swim to the surface. There, look for wooden platforms to find the start of this minigame.
Chapter 6: Garden Garden Swings This minigame gives each player a swing to swing back and forth on to pick up momentum and jump as far as possible into the garden in front of them. Found at the start of the level. Climb up the nearby rocks and see a garden swing that marks the minigame.
Larva Basket This minigame has players trying to throw food to the larva protruding from holes in a stack of spinning rings. Whoever feeds the most larva in a minute wins. In the area with mushrooms to jump across after May waters her first plant, follow the mushrooms to the left to find a minigame on top of a stack of rocks.
Snail Race This minigame is a race with the players riding the back of snails and having to move in quick forward dashes while avoiding various obstacles. When you get off the frogs and continue on foot, this minigame is on the other side of a tunnel you have to crawl through before getting to the big lantern. It is just around the corner to the right of the lantern.
Chapter 7: The Attic Slotcars This minigame is a traditional slotcar race with a top-down perspective and players managing the speed of their cars to get around the track as fast as possible without flying off when going around corners. Go straight from the start of the level to find a race track on the floor.
Chess This minigame is a simple game of chess.  This minigame is given to you automatically while progressing through the game.
Musical Chairs This minigame has the players moving around a single chair as the music plays. When the music stops, whichever player manages to sit in the chair the first three times wins. Found just to the left of the Chess minigame. Climb up the books, jump on the drum, and swing on the hooks to cross the room to get to it. It is just in front of the blue radio there.
Volleyball This minigame is a fun volleyball game, seeing the two players facing one another. Found in the outdoor section where both players get a jetpack on top of a white cloud underneath the starting platform.
Track Runner This minigame is a race where players have to dodge neon pink walls that move toward them to see who can last the longest.  Found directly to the right of the floor vent to the next section of the level after you complete the Symphony section.
