Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the biggest titles for the PlayStation 4. Its stylish post-apocalyptic setting with colossal robotic dinosaurs became iconic when it released its first trailer. When it came out, players found a deep open world filled with history and culture to explore and learn. It also has a complete list of trophies to hunt down that can challenge players to get its platinum, and if you’re hoping to do so, you’ve come to the right place.

Before going over what exactly you’ll have to do for each of the trophies, we’ll go over the big picture so that you know what to expect before you start the journey and tackle the platinum in the most efficient way possible.

Step One: The Main Story

The first part of your playthrough should focus on the main story. Not only will this make sure that you enjoy it as much as possible and have the context to understand the lore and stories of the side quests, but it also will make you level up gradually throughout the game, making everything else go more quickly since you’ll be pretty powerful by the end. If you find any side quests that pique your interest or any collectibles along the way, feel free to grab them right away so that you don’t have to later. You should also read the description for the All allies joined trophy below before starting the game to make sure you get it. If you miss it, you can go back and get it, but it’ll add a significant amount of time to your playthrough.

Trophies in this step:

  • Stealth killed 10 machines
  • 3 Strikes From Above3
  • Tore off 10 components
  • 10 Vulnerable machine kills
  • Tore off 5 heavy weapons
  • Headshot 30 human enemies
  • First Modification
  • Reached level 10
  • Reached level 25
  • First Tallneck Overridden
  • First Bandit Camp cleared
  • First Core Overridden
  • First Corrupted Zone cleared
  • Followed Rost’s teachings
  • Defeated the Sawtooth
  • Triumphed in the Proving
  • Fought back the corruption
  • Learned of the ancient past
  • Crashed the Eclipse network
  • Discovered the truth
  • Broke the siege of All-Mother
  • Recovered a powerful weapon
  • All allies joined
  • Ended the war machine threat
  • Victorious with the War-Chief
  • Saved Meridian from its foe

Step Two: Side Quests and Catalogues

Once you finish up the main story, you’ll want to move on to the side quests scattered throughout the map. The side quests focus on helping the various tribes within the world and tackling more of the most visually impressive mechanical dinosaurs. The side missions can be split up into four different kinds. The first is bandit camps that task you with killing all of the enemies within a settlement to give it back to a tribe. Then, there are corrupted zones with a group of corrupted machines you have to kill, while extra missions are exactly what they sound like. Finally, the hunting grounds side quests challenge you with using all of your gear and skills to take down groups of enemies most efficiently and stylishly possible. During this step, you’ll also want to grab any collectibles you come across while running throughout the map and completing your catalog for every machine type.

Trophies in this step:

  • 7 types of machine overridden
  • All Acquisition machines killed
  • All Recon machines killed
  • All Combat machines killed
  • All Transport machines killed
  • Reached level 40
  • All Suns at one Ground
  • Blazing Suns at one Ground
  • Cleared all the Bandit Camps
  • All Cores Overridden
  • All Suns at all Grounds
  • Blazing Suns at all Grounds
  • All Corrupted Zones cleared
  • All machines cataloged
  • Aided the defectors
  • Hunted Redmaw with Talanah

Step Three: Collectibles and Clean Up

Finally, you’ll want to wrap up your playthrough by finishing up the collectibles you don’t have yet and getting the last couple of trophies. Collectibles can be made much easier by buying inexpensive maps from vendors that mark their location on your map. So, if you want to speed through the platinum as fast as possible, you can buy those maps early on in your playthrough and use them to grab any collectibles nearby as you travel for quests and missions. At this point, you should also get the final two trophies for reaching the max level of 50 and unlocking all of the skills. If not, you may just have to grind for a little bit to get the last experience that you need.

Trophies in this step:

  • Downed 23 Grazer dummies
  • All Tallnecks Overridden
  • First Vantage found
  • First Metal Flower found
  • First Banuk Figures found
  • First Ancient Vessel found
  • All Vantages found
  • All Metal Flowers found
  • All Banuk Figures found
  • All Ancient Vessels found
  • Got the Shield-Weaver outfit
  • Reached level 50
  • All Skills learned

Step Four: The Frozen Wilds

Once you’re done with the base game, you’ll be ready to move to its DLC, The Frozen Wilds. This DLC will add around ten hours to your playtime, and you should be level 50 before you jump into it. To start the DLC, you have to play the quest A Seeker at the Gates, followed by talking to the new vendors of either Rhavid at Outside Meridian, Ohtur at Daytower fort, or Yariki the north of the Grave Hoard. Unlike the base game, you should do some side activities before getting into the main story of the DLC. Firstly, I recommend overriding the Tallneck to reveal the map and getting the maps from the Banuk vendor for the collectibles immediately if you can. You should also do the Shared Secret sidequest to unlock the ability to modify your spear, which will make playing through the DLC much more manageable. Once those side activities are out of the way, you’ll be ready to tackle the main story quests and can play through those. Then, once the main quests are out of the way, you can finish the game by doing a few side quests and finding the new collectibles added in the DLC.

Trophies in this step:

  • Took the Shaman’s Path
  • Won the Werak Challenge
  • Completed the Second Expedition
  • Conquered the Mountain
  • First Spear Modification
  • Drained the Flood
  • Won Ikrie’s Challenge
  • Fully Improved Weapons
  • All Quests completed
  • All Activities completed
