Selection Criteria
When it comes to organizing the characters of Fire Emblem Heroes into tiers, I divided them based on their color type. This allows us to compare each hero with others with similar weapons and purposes. Of course, when making a party, you want to bring a mix of colors to take full advantage of the game’s color triangle, as well as a mix of physical and magical damage heroes. It is also important to note that within each tier and color, the heroes are organized alphabetically and not through any meaningful comparison within that tier.
Tier List
SS Tier
This tier holds the absolute best of the best. These are the heroes that are capable of making even missions that are Abyssal difficulty manageable if you can assemble an entire team of them. Of course, most of the heroes in this tier are also some of the rarest in the entire game. If you manage to get even one, however, you can expect a drastic improvement in how your parties perform and may even find new strategies to experiment with.
Heroes that fall into the SS tier also have equipment and abilities that allow them to react appropriately to numerous missions, even as enemy forces change or reinforcements arrive. They can counter or at least hold their own against multiple types of enemy units without having any glaring weaknesses or vulnerabilities. Not only does this help you beat missions more straightforward, but it also saves you from having to swap out heroes and mix up your team as frequently as you otherwise would.
The strength of these units also makes them great for helping level up weaker characters in your roster. This is because they are usually powerful enough to help carry your squad to victory even if you have a few more vulnerable heroes that don’t pull their fair weight. This can help you drag these low-level heroes through higher-difficulty missions than you could to level them up much faster.

S Tier
The heroes in this tier are still powerful options for most parties. They have equipment that covers various enemy types, can take care of themselves, and have exciting synergies with other heroes. If you pull one of these heroes, you should still be plenty excited about getting them. S tier heroes can beat even the most challenging levels in Fire Emblem Heroes, but doing so will likely take more careful and strategic play than if you were using a team of SS heroes.
S tier heroes can also be used to help you train lower-level heroes similarly to SS heroes, but I don’t recommend relying on them as heavily. The heroes at this tier are still strong, but they have weaknesses and have a harder time picking up the slack for their less-powerful party members. I’ve found that one of the best ways to use these heroes is as an anchor or pivotal party member in more experimental or specialized party compositions. This allows you to have fun with builds and use heroes with more narrow focuses while being able to have party members that you know can be relied on.

A Tier
Heroes that are ranked as A tier are still solid options to take on the majority of missions. However, taking these heroes on harder missions will take a lot of careful planning and near flawless execution. This is because while A tier heroes tend to thrive at their particular focus, they are not as universally capable. This means that the heroes in this tier will be able to cover one or two roles and enemy units for the party, but outside of that, they will start to struggle.
The vulnerability of these heroes thus puts more emphasis on the player’s planning and tactical ability. If players build a squad using only A tier and lower heroes they have to put a lot of effort into making sure that it is a balanced composition that is capable of handling whatever challenges the mission they are playing holds for them. They also have to make sure to play safely and conservatively to not leave any of their heroes exposed to units that they are particularly weak against.

B Tier
Heroes in the B tier of Fire Emblem Heroes are those that fulfill the nature of their role well but don’t do anything beyond that. This leaves them especially vulnerable to enemy units that counter their equipment and means that they are less forgiving when it comes to players making positioning mistakes or other tactical errors on the battlefield.
That being said, these units are still capable enough to be used at most difficulty levels throughout the game. You just have to keep in mind that they don’t have as many options as higher-tier heroes and that you may have to play more carefully to make them work for you. This also means that you will have to pay attention to your party’s composition to avoid having any of your heroes being left particularly vulnerable or unaided on the battlefield.

C Tier
These heroes are ranked as C tier because they can be difficult to make work well. This does not mean that they are necessarily not worth using at all. Rather, their kits are more narrowly focused than other heroes, forcing players to build careful strategies when using them at medium or higher difficulties. This means that using these heroes can be a very rewarding and engaging way to spice up your gameplay in Fire Emblem Heroes, but I highly advise against using them for the highest few difficulty levels.
I find myself having the most fun with C tier heroes when I use them to create more gimmicky solutions to missions. Since each character in this tier has a very specific use on the battlefield they can be combined with higher-tier heroes to create teams that counter enemy teams in very silly ways. This has led to some of the most entertaining and fun battles I’ve ever fought in Fire Emblem Heroes, even if it is difficult to find more general uses for this tier beyond those more comical instances.
